President's Welcome

Mickey Kaminski
COT

As a seasoned ophthalmic technician of more than 30 years and as a strong advocate for professional development and advancement, I am honored and privileged to serve as your
2014-2015 ATPO President.

ATPO Mission is "to provide, expand, and support scientific and educational opportunities for allied health personnel in ophthalmology, and to act as an advocate for its members and the profession". As a long time member, my passion has evolved to focusing on the importance of mentoring. It is my goal to strongly encourage technicians, both young and old, to get certified and to get involved. Participation with ATPO not only empowers you, but it also ensures the future vitality of the entire ophthalmic profession.

There are many opportunities to get involved, such as teaching classes at a regional meeting, volunteering to distribute literature among other ophthalmic professions, participating on a committee, writing for Viewpoints Magazine, and possibly even running for a position on the ATPO Board of Directors. One of the most rewarding benefits of joining our association for me has been the opportunity to network with a diverse group of intelligent and incredibly talented professionals. For over 40 years, ATPO has brought together ophthalmic assistants, technicians, technologists, surgical and kerato-refractive techs, photographers, nurses, and orthoptists, to educate and, more importantly, to advocate for our remarkable profession.

I strongly encourage you to take advantage of our organizations' benefits by previewing the Benefits of ATPO & the Value of JCAHPO Certification. If you are a current member - thank you for your continued support of your professional association. If you are a new member, welcome to ATPO!

Please feel free to email anyone on the Board of Directors with your ideas, concerns, or to volunteer to be on one of our committees. We're looking forward to serving you and making ATPO the best it can be!

Warm Regards,
Michelle 'Mickey' Kaminski, COT
ATPO President
