2012 IS A GREAT TIME TO BE A CERTIFIED OPHTHALMIC TECHNICIAN! With all of the technical advances, the climate in health care, the global economy, and the need to streamline the delivery of care by the physician, the need for knowledgeable, skilled certified ophthalmic technicians, both domestically and abroad, is vast.
ATPO, your professional membership organization, and, JCAHPO, your certifying body, are here to support and guide you. We can provide you with study aids and tools to become certified or we can help you to advance to the next level of certification. Have you earned your four free ATPO CE credits yet this year?
There are many opportunities to get involved:
- ATPO has many committees, including Membership, Communications, Nominating, and the Scientific Session and Grand Rounds, which meet throughout the year via conference calls.
- The Viewpoints Magazine is always in need of content. You can submit an interesting case study, or perhaps you know of a technician who has gone “Above and Beyond” their job and made a contribution to their community – send us your nominations. Do you love to read? You could share good books or stories pertaining to ophthalmology for our “Suggested Reading” column, or maybe you have some “Tech Tips” that you could share with our members. Remember – Viewpoints is your magazine!
- I realize that you are already a member of ATPO. But have you discussed a Group Membership with your colleagues? Your clinic qualifies if you have three or more ATPO members. It’s simple and easy - we encourage you to promote ATPO and its benefits to your friends and co-workers!
- Did you know that we have an excellent partnership with Local Eye Site and provide you with a Career Center to assist with job searches and hiring?
- Also new this year, the 2011 Salary and Benefits Report is now a free membership benefit.
As an ATPO member, I hope you are taking advantage of all that we have to offer! Be sure to visit www.atpo.org and log onto the all new Members Only page!
Inside this issue of Viewpoints, you will read about the 2011 Orlando meeting. I was amazed at the comments from our attendees. I ask you to share the news about ATPO’s Scientific Session and Grand Rounds with your co-workers and colleagues. Better yet - bring a colleague to the Chicago meeting. We will provide you with great CE and opportunities to network with your peers from across the country - all at ATPO’s Grand Round and Scientific Session!
Please don’t hesitate to interact with your board members. Remember, we are working on your behalf and represent you. I am looking forward to seeing you in Chicago!
Sincerely,
Martha Finch Moos, BS, COMT
