Be able to read prescribed eyeglasses utilizing lensometer. Assist physician with patient work-up and minor procedures and lasers, patient transport, and patient education. Be competent with use and care of ophthalmic equipment and basic trouble shooting; by researching previous exam information and asking pertinent exam related questions, along with performing skills required in obtaining accurate visual testing legibly and accurately, document findings in patient chart;

Provide documentation of all related patient care information and patient educational material provided to patient; Administer ophthalmic eye medication ordered by physician; Communicate with patients, family, physicians and employees promptly and efficiently, returning phone calls within same day, and providing accurate information; Assist physician as listed in departmental scope of care as per level of certification; Utilizing OMT skills, assess incoming triage patient phone calls, asking pertinent questions to determine true urgency of the situation and appointment needs. Be able to book appointment based on this assessment, obtaining appropriate referral prior to the appointment; Inform patients of any delays which will result in patient waiting more than 20 minutes past arrival.

Requirements: High school education; non-certified with Bachelor's degree in Ophthalmic Medical Technology, or COT with 5 years experience, or OT with 10 years experience.

Responsibilities

Complete knowledge of AORN's (Association of Operating Room Nurses) Recommended Practices and ASORN's (American Society of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses) Core Curriculum.

Education :

Minimum: RN; B.A. or B.S. degree in a science, clinical, or other related area with 4 or more years in Ophthalmic Nursing, as a Certified Registered Nurse in Ophthalmology (CRNO), or other Ophthalmic certifications (JCAHPO).

Preferred: Masters degree plus 2-5 years relevant experience to include ophthalmic nursing, Medical Device Manufacturing, and Regulatory Affairs knowledge.
