ATPO unifies. JCAHPO certifies.

ATPO's Mission is to provide, expand, and support scientific and educational opportunities for allied health personnel in ophthalmology, and to act as an advocate for its members and the profession.

Healthcare has undergone many changes in recent years, and JCAHPO, like other organizations, took the time to re-examine itself and think about the ways in which it could better serve its population of certified ophthalmic medical technicians (OMT). JCAHPO began exploring the possibility of forming strategic alliances with other organizations in an effort to be more efficient and maximize resources and leadership talent.

In early 1999, JCAHPO began working with one of its member organizations, the Association of Technical Personnel in Ophthalmology (ATPO), to forge a new working partnership that would offer a variety of enhanced benefits for allied health personnel. This new alliance between JCAHPO and ATPO was overwhelmingly approved by the members of ATPO in August, 1999, and by the JCAHPO Board of Directors in October, 1999.

The alliance between JCAHPO and ATPO provides the ophthalmic community with the most up-to-date and highest level of service available. Both JCAHPO and ATPO leadership acknowledge the importance of this strategic alliance: "In this time of constant change and consolidation in the health care industry, it is more important than ever that ATPO build strategic alliance with partners that can help provide more member services, increase efficiency, and contain cost," said Donna Applegate, COT, ATPO Past-President. Peter Donshik, MD, JCAHPO Past-President remarked, "Associations like ATPO that champion change and embrace leadership, technology, membership, and interaction will have a secure place in the future."

Many hours of hard work, dedication, and visionary thinking marked the discussions between JCAHPO and ATPO regarding this alliance. Because the JCAHPO/ATPO alliance has historical significance, both organizations are dedicated to making this alliance a successful partnership and a model of unparalleled leadership in ophthalmic medicine.

JCAHPO's Mission is to enhance the quality and availability of ophthalmic patient care by promoting the value of qualified allied health personnel and by providing certification and continuing education.
